Judy Landis of San Francisco

When I arrived in San Francisco last week, I had the airport shuttle take me right to the Mission so I could get a classic San Francisco burrito. I opted for a place I used to eat at only periodically and after the first bite regretted not going to my favoite place, El Buen Sabor on 18th & Valencia. They have the best carnitas in all of the Mission…hands down!

But since I went to this other joint right on Mission, I ended up walking down a block that I wouldn’t have otherwise and low and behold…who should I run into, but my crazy old friend Judy!

I had not seen Judy in over 20 years and I can tell you she was wonderfully insane back then and she still is today! The years, however, have not been very kind to her and I almost wonder how I recognized her as she slowly shuffled past me on the street.  HERE’s how I remember Judy from the 80s!

I Went To Neverland

We were really close to where Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch was last week so we drove over and took a peek. The area is really beautiful and about 5 miles from Solvang, where we were staying. Not much to see at all besides a gate and driveway, but I thought I’d grab a snap….wish that flash glare wasn’t there though.

A Baltimore Birthday

A few weeks ago, my friend Nikki invited me to a birthday party which she described “as Baltimore as you can get” and said “you should bring your camera”. My only question to her was, “Are there hipsters there? No? Great, I’ll be right over!” No offense to hipsters, but I was really in the mood for meeting people I’d never seen before and who I had very little in common with..and these people were fun!

This is Billy. It was his birthday and he was taking pictures with his squirt gun camera.

This is Vern. She was the singer of the classic rock cover band…great voice!

Party guest.

Sweet Victoria and Billy.

There was a port-a-potty in the backyard that was stocked with the best toiletries ever. I really wanted to use that Summer’s Eve!

Summer Updates Start Now!

I’ve been slow about adding photos to my blog for two reasons. #1 I’m not taking very many photos and I’m starting to feel like I’m running out of film and #2 I’ve been having some problems with Blogger.  I do have a little bit of a backlog, so I am going to try to get them all updated in the next several days.

Here are some photos from a cookout we had in July.

Wilma Martinez Artscape Booth

WordPress has been real stubborn about uploads the last couple of times I tried, but I will get caught up with some piling up Polaroids! Here is a series I took of people in my Wilma Martinez booth at Artscape.

Drag Queens & Sheila Dixon

I took out the camera for Baltimore Pride and got a few good snaps. I don’t know why I always forget to change the exposure setting when I am shooting in bright daylight. That’s why some of these look a bit washed out. There’s a nice clean quality about them that I like, so it doesn’t bother me at all.

Ada Buffet

MIss Ada Buffet. I can’t remember what her title is but I know she was Miss Trailer Trash one year.

I loved watching this queen. She was really enjoying herself…she was sooo happy, but she had a hard time taking direction. I had to tell her where to stand about five times before she came close enough to where I was saying.

Mayor Sheila Dixon

I got all up in Sheila Dixon’s face for this one. She relaxed for the photo then, “Why are you so close??!” One of her people then said, “Old school Polaroid.”

This girl looked so interesting leaning against this wall…almost comically tragic. When I asked to take her photo, she couldn’t stop smiling and I haven’t had to tell someone not to smile so many times as I had to tell her.

Three Polaroid People

A few more photos from my friend Debbie’s party the other night.
