80s Prom Polaroid Party
Last week I was asked to set up a Polaroid booth at this year’s 80s Prom at the Ottobar. I did it a couple of years ago and it was a blast. That year I took a crapload of photos and almost fell off my stool onto a pile of people when “Living On A Prayer” started playing. Try dancing, taking a photo and drinking all at the same time. Thankfully I don’t smoke.

I wasn’t counting on this year’s Polaroid party on actually happening until I knew that the organizers could rustle up some film because I wasn’t going to use my stash for their party. They came through with 100 exposures and my only criteria for doing this event was that I be paid in film. I wanted half of everything they had. I felt like a greedy divorcée. I never had a rich husband to divorce, so I wasn’t going to pass up this opportunity. Maybe I’ll take all of their film and make a run for it. When I did this party in 2006, it was sad to give away every photo (probably about 75). I only saw a few of them fully developed. It was like sending your kids off to school and moving away while they were in class. Heartbreaking, but I am willing to do it again. I never wanted kids anyway.

This year’s 80s Polaroid Prom at the Ottobar will be on June 27th and sponsored by the City Paper. If you’re in Baltimore, come early. Only 50 photos will be taken!
