A Different View of A Classic

One of my favorite Polaroids is this shot of Sidney I took at a street festival here in Baltimore about three years ago. It became an instant classic..the clenched fist, the tough attitude and of course the Ramones t-shirt all made it a great photo.

Last week I ran into Sidney and his mom, Amanda and got this shot. Sidney is now four years old!

Outside Club Choices

I took a few out of character shots the other day. The street outside the Club Choices was illuminated by a big industrial type light that filled the street as if it were an abandoned movie set.

ANDY GORE

DEBBIE

I mentioned to Andy that there always seems to be shootings at this club. I actually think I said, “People get shot in the face here all the time.” So of course, he had to pose as victim. Always ready for a good photo op, that Andy!

Wilma Martinez at Artscape 2009!

My proposal for a space at this year’s Midway Exhibit at Artscape was approved and I will have an installation/exhibit all about Wilma Martinez on the Charles St. Bridge!

I’m very excited. It will be filled with intrigue, glamour, fashion and horror! To celebrate, I wanted to post a few never before seen Polaroids of Wilma when she was in town in October. She has since been on an extended stay in the Maldives, but I hope to have her back around soon to get a new batch of photos to use in my Midway exhibit.

This shot appeared in my show “Art-I-Ficial” at Metro Gallery in Nov. 2008.

Artscape is in Baltimore and runs from July 17-19th

Artist Matthew Kern

Matthew Kern emailed me last week  to see if I would be interested in photographing him for a book project he is working on. I did not know him, but I was pleasantly surprised to realize that I was familiar with his work and considered it some of the best Polaroid art I’ve ever encountered.

I immediately agreed to meet with him and also talked with him a bit about his work and he will be in my next Defektive Arts column which will hit the street on April 10th.  And…WOW..how cool was it that he gave me Polaroid film!! Fifty exposures…20 of SX-70 Time Zero and 30 Spectra exposures. Sweet!

I won’t even try to think of the mind-numbing stash that he has. It is humbling.

Bedroom Polaroids 03

Last week my pal, Kat Hudson, agreed to let me into her bedroom to shoot some risqué Polaroids of her for my Bedroom series. Gutter Magazine’s Dirty Girl, pulled through with some nice and suggestive images. Here are a couple of them.

Bedroom Series 02

Here is another shot from my Bedroom Polaroid series.

The guy below is David. He agreed to take a few shots, though I did not know him.

This project is an ongoing thing, so let me know if you want in on it. Nudity preferred, but not required. I do need to shoot in your personal space and only looking for people living in Baltimore city.

Mink Stole

I met with Mink Stole a couple of weeks ago for an interview for OUTloud and took a couple of Polaroids.  And wouldn’t you know that I’m shooting one of John Waters‘ most famous stars and I fuck up the photos…

Encounters Zodiac

Beach House played a show at Zodiac…which I  actually didn’t see. It was one of those nights where I was distracted saying hello to so many people I hadn’t seen in forever…that happens when you hibernate all winter long.

I had to convince this woman to let me take her photo. Every once in a while I get someone demanding to know “WHY?”… I thought she looked so cute, but I can’t remember her name.

Poor Abby was mugged! But it didn’t detract too much…I still think she looked adorable even with the band-aid. After watching two seasons of America’s Next Top Model, I think she has “it”
